Distinguish between "Needs" and "Good to Have":
You will save a lot if you get to distinguish between yout "Needs" and "Good to Haves". Needs are quite simple to identify- they are the items that are necessary for your and your family to sustain: a roof over your heads, food, clothing, transportation, etc.
"Good to Haves" are mainly stuff that enhance or possibly improve your quality of family life. While a car is a need, a latest generation Sport Utility Vehicle is a want, even if a lot of people don't see it that way.
For most purchases, take the 3-day waiting period test... once you have decided on a particular item, wait 3 days before actually making the purchase. This will help you shop around for something that costs less and/or better quality. You may even decide to forget about it and thus help you save the $$$!
